- FEBRUARY GENERAL MEETING
Friday, February 22, 2013 - 7:00 p.m. at
CUMMINGS LODGE - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Guest speaker: Nate Long - Aquatic
Control
We had successful public meeting February 22 at Cummings Lodge.
State Representative, Tom Dermody spoke briefly and said we were at
the top of the list for the grant. Linda Knoll, Exit 1 Realty, spoke
briefly on how this weed problem could
impact property values and Mitch Feikes spoke on behalf of the Parks
Department on the process of putting out bids and selecting a company
to do the actual treatment. Guest speaker Nate Long spoke in detail about
this weed and the problems it creates, how the treatment will work, when
it needs to be applied, follow -up treatment and answered many questions.
The weed committee set a goal for the fund at $150,000. This amount
will be needed to maintain the health of the lakes for a couple of years.
Dr. Bill Wolf designed signs that will keep the goal visible to all and
should be available soon. We are hoping to have official word on the status
of the grant at the March 21 General Meeting.
There was a brief discussion about the possibility of speed boat
races on Stone Lake this summer for one weekend. Rick Wright from the Visitors
Bureau and Convention Center spoke briefly on this and Jay Pouzar added that proceeds from a
silent auction at this event will go into the weed fund.
Other issues discussed were:
• Lake cleanup needs to be done and we are open to ideas as to how
to clear the lake of the floating milfoil.
• How do we manage the health of the lakes in the future?
• How do we maintain the funds necessary ?
• How do we educate ourselves of other worse invasive weeds?.
